Need recommendations for a psychologist or counsellor who can guide and help a close family member. He is a 31 year old who needs support to navigate issues with his partner. He needs to talk it all through.
We live in Perth.

Hi @EternalFlower,
Generally speaking, it's okay to mention specific services when you're sharing information about supports that may be helpful to another member or talking about services you've used yourself.
We do ask members to be mindful of anonymity and privacy, so it's usually best to avoid sharing highly local identifying details. State-wide and Australia-wide services are generally fine to mention.
We also ask members not to name services in the context of making complaints or posting negative reviews about them, as this falls outside our Community Guidelines
I hope this helps and hope you're well 😊

Hi @nivvy
Welcome to the forums, and thank you for reaching out 💜
It sounds like you’re trying to find the right support for someone close to you, which can feel a bit overwhelming when you’re not sure where to start.
In Perth, you might find the following options helpful when looking for a psychologist or counsellor:
Head to Health (now Head to Health / Medicare Mental Health) – can help you find local mental health services and supports
https://www.headtohealth.gov.au
Beyond Blue service finder – to locate psychologists and counsellors in your area
https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/find-a-professional
Psychology Today directory (Australia) – allows you to filter by location and issue
https://www.psychologytoday.com/au/counselling
Your GP – can be a really good first step to discuss what’s going on and get a Mental Health Treatment Plan if needed, which can help with Medicare rebates for psychology sessions
If your family member is open to it, starting with a GP is often the easiest way to get connected into the right supports and referrals.
I hope this helps a little as a starting point 💜

Hi @Nala2022 since ppl experience often positive transference towards their particular therpaist or program is it safe for ppl to recommend their own thrrqpists ? Anyway i have followed ur guidelienes abd recommended although tbh its not what id feel is ideal on such a large forum without mods. Thanks again.

Good question, and you’re right to be thinking about privacy with this one @EternalFlower
We generally ask to not share specific details about their own therapist if it could potentially identify you or where you're located (for example, naming a small local practice or anything that could make the suburb/town traceable). This is mainly to protect your privacy.
If the therapist is part of a larger service or not locally identifying, it can sometimes be okay to mention them in a general way, but we still encourage keeping details broad rather than specific.
Sharing that therapy has been helpful is absolutely fine, it’s just the identifying info we need to be careful with.
Thanks for checking in on it 💜
