Social anxiety

Quick question- I was at a small social event today/tonight and my ibs decided to go crazy, is this normal? I haven't really socialised in over a year.  I also started to get tired. I just don't understand myself at the moment.  I have always been very social in the past. Everything has changed in the last year or so.  Any advice would be great thanks 😊

Re: Social anxiety

Hi @Sirine

Yes, when I'm anxious the first symptoms I get are gut issues. The gut - mental health connections is pretty strong. More and more research is looking into this. So it could have been your anxiety. When you haven't socialised for so long, re-entering the social scene can be overwhelming and exhausting. I remember when we were in lockdown for months and then had to go to a social event. I was absolutely depleted! Don't be hard on yourself, sounds like a very normal reaction.  How have you been besides the IBS?

Re: Social anxiety

@hanami hi hun ibs is a shocker. I'm doing much better it's like a switch flipped after watching YouTube videos on bpd and the body keeps score.  Have decided to try and find a night fill job as I'm not ready to go back to support work but I need to do something.  I'm off the smokes and start detox next week. So much going on.

Hope your world is treating you well xx

Re: Social anxiety

@Sirine that's awesome to hear! Really hoping things continue this way for you

Re: Social anxiety

@hanami thanks hun I know I will still have bad days but hopefully I'll start to have more good ones. Knowledge is power and having a team is so important.

It's so good to have this forum too.

I have been so unwell for such a long time it's nice to have had a couple of days of somewhat normality. Xxx

Re: Social anxiety

Love this so much. Everything you say is so true ❤️

Re: Social anxiety

Hey @Sirine I have been researching a lot about hypnotherapy for IBS as I've heard it's helpful. There is an app.. not sure if it works but I'm interested to know more. Might be worth looking into...

Re: Social anxiety

@Paperdaisy hey hun thanks for the feedback I'm not the best candidate for hypnosis as my brain won't shut up lol. Tried it to give up smoking and it did zip.

Re: Social anxiety

Fair enough haha @Sirine just something I have seen and was interested about. I hear you though, so interesting the way the mind sets off the gut and visa versa. Best of luck to you 😊

Re: Social anxiety

Could it be possible that you feel this way because your confidence  may be a little low and unsure of your surroundings and what to expect ? And the fact that socialised in about a year would probably be a big factor )like getting back on the horse,).  It's feeling a bit out of touch with things  perfectly understandable .
