Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

hello @Former-Member

@I am so sorry to hear about such a dreadful experience that you endured.

i think, I don't know , that in seeing this psychiatrist it is similar to a cave being opened and that you are experiencing a feeling of wanting to release all.

there are some very delicate, sensitive feelings that would be best discussed with a a professional, your psychiatrist. He or she can advise if, how, when to discuss with others.

for now you can just say to your partner that you are feeling strange, don't know how to explain but want to reassure not him, you will be ok.

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

@Former-Member Read what @Former-Member wrote above. If you can't speak then show him the conversation with you mum or write it down. I am also no expert on relationships lol but honesty here is probably the best way forward as he already knows something is up and is expecting to know and understand when you get home. Whatever his reaction(s) may be it seems like it will all be based on love and concern for you - and whatever he feels he has a right to feel. It will be a shock to begin with but it may also bring you closer and help to deepen the relationship with a better understanding between you both.

Here for you @Former-Member - strength and courage being sent your way - you got this...

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

Hi there its Jazz one of the moderators, it is a tough position to be in especially as you say he thinks you had an upbringing without issues. It must be tough to know what to do, I definentley aggree its worth speaking to a professional for suppprt. You can either contact Lifeline as they are 24/7 or there is another service which is a counselling service that you can email on mindspot.org.au. I hope this helps

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

Hello @Former-Member

i am going to take a risk of offending others here

i do know about relationships

this is an extremely sensitive subject

men do not react or digest information in the same way as women

men have the urge to fix not understand initially

once out there cannot be retrieved

you need professional help on how to discuss this you already have trauma that does not need to be exacerbated

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

at the end of the day @Former-Member its up to you 🙂 and have support here no matter what.

Let us know how you go if you can, sometimes it can be hard to talk to professional supports that we have because, well they're not actually available when these situations come up, but as @jazz suggested lifeline is always there if you need.

take care of you,

lj

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

thanks everyone @Former-Member @Former-Member @jazz @Zoe7 I told him and boy it went down weird. First he thought it was way worse that it was and broke down crying. Then he thought he misunderstood and that nothing actually happened and that I was overreacting so then I was really hurt and angry. Then we finally were on the same page. But yes you are right @Former-Member he's kind of like "right well what do you need to do to move on and forget about this now? You're only hurting yourself and it needs to stop right now" I love him dearly and he loves me to so for that I am forever grateful. We have both acknowledged that he doesn't know what to say or do right now apart from scoop my up in his arms and just be there. I am truely grateful that I have a man I can completely trust right now. I am also really grateful that I have you guys on this forum to support me especially when I am in a time of panic and desperation. Thank you once again for being there.

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

I still have no idea how to make this go away. I guess it won't ever go away.

Re: 1st appointment with psychiatrist - what to expect?

I am so sad and I am so, so tired.
