@snowlee127, how and why can CBT and mindfulness be useful for carers?

I have found mindfulness useful to overcome trauma I suffered from abuse from my BPD partner. When I wake at night with an anxiety attack, I orientate myself to where I am and that it is a safe place. It's useful too that I have a dog that shares my bed. She snuggles up next to me when I stir and I pat her. This calms me.

that's great to hear that it's been really helpful for you @soul. Can I ask if you've tried CBT? And if so, how do you feel CBT and minfulness compare?

@Shaz51 Yes, when we firstly introduced mindfulness breathing techniques to our carers, many people said that it is harder than they thought when your body is giving you an anxious reaction and you try to slow your breaths down. The practice is also about physically telling your body to be calm. It takes practices for sure.

@CherryBomb, haven't really tried CBT to any great extent. I do at times replay situations in my mind at a later stage and think about what I would have done differently.
