How do you get a diagnosis for someone. I think my partner may have BPD but how do we begin to get effective treatment if we cannot get a diagnosis. In the past when he has gone to a psychiatrist he covers many of his symptoms and does not allow me to go to the appointment. Is there a specialist for borderline personality Disorder in sydney.

Hi @Lola123
Sounds challenging for you. We have a factsheet that may help... Borderline personality disorder (BPD) (sane.org) Hope you find it useful and get some results.

Hey @Lola123 ,
Does your partner think they have BPD? I wonder if they can ask their psychiatrist?
I was diagnosed in hospital.
Then again, I've never had to 'prove' I had BPD to get treatment. I've had specialised treatment for BPD
in Vic.
Have you look on Project Air's website? or the Australian BPD Foundation's website? They may have more info there.

Hi @Lola123
I noticed your post because I think Im in the same boat. Just wondering how you went with getting a diagnosis for your husband?
My wife has sought help for depression before from her GP. We also went to couples counselling for a long time. Neither picked up on any broader/deeper issue. (Im positive there are) She has no tolerance for any kind of criticism at all so I feel I cant suggest any more treatment etc because she would see this as an attack.
