My son has mental illness.Any help please

Dear all

In the last few weeks my son has difficulty sleeping, non stop chatting, talking very loud and angry toward some gurus online that he chat online.

He shows anger and frustration when things are bottled up especially during this time of the year.

He is also lonely without friends or just gamers friends.

Lack of sleep makes him more irritated and impatient.

I tried to calm him down like talking to him, sitting with him while he plays, giving him water and food etc..

But it is only effective for a short while

His temper becomes quicker to explode

I am wondering if you can support by giving me some hints to deal with his behaviour

Thanks

Hi @Sora

Welcome to the forums 😊 thankyou for sharing your story.

I'm sorry you are finding things difficult with your son.

I believe I have been /am where you are many, many times.

I would often use food, as you mentioned to try to alleviate worsening of my house mates mental state.

It doesn't resolve - although diet, nutrition is very important & people can 'forget to eat ' . So, I think you are being really practical. You sound very caring & patient. I think I can relate very well - to feelings of exasperation.

Is that what it is like for you?

Hi all

I am really grateful to received such  practical and helpful hints from you.

Lacking of sleep and forget to eat play very important role.

I guess  that I am not alone in the never ending battle against  mental illnesses.

What happened to my son could be a pattern that can repeat again and again.

I need support in dealing with these tricky situations and I am so glad I found one.

Thank you so much for lending an ear to listen and share.

@Sora

I try and keep healthy nibbles around and be available when wanted or needed.

I have experienced similar things with my son, and find the most important thing is to find a way to get through that you really love him, and can also give him space. It can be awful to hear them going through a hard time so I find it is important to detach and do self care as well.

Does he have any supports or mental health professionals involved?

Your welcome @Sora

Please continue to reach out.

I think it changed my outlook when I began using these forums. I felt so isolated for so many years. It is very important to connect with others. And all of us, who have been carers, really do understand, the little things that are hard to put into words.

I was able to find answers by reading, all sorts of subjects.

Well, maybe not answers - but it helped me feel supported & think of things differently.

I found this insightful. I didn't know about self care
