Nice @FearofUnknown ! I had time in the pool too. Unusual that host didn't provide food. We had homemade sausage rolls. Hope it was okay for you.

Re: Sunday Coffee and Chat -- 25th January 2026

@Shaz51 that sounds yum. I had kale and cranberry salad with Vienna bread.

@Blackcloud aw, you're welcome, I'm glad to hear that was helpful. I hope you can be treated without being in hospital. Unless your home life is really tough, it is nicer to be treated while living in the community. Hospital is good if you need a break from home or to try out a tricky medication combination though.

What I'm talking about is actually two different types of hospital SYSTEMS, rather than two different hospitals. There are heaps of private psychiatric hospitals, if you needed to stay in one you could choose which one suits you (it does depend a lot on which ones have a free bed, what your private insurance is willing to cover and how long you can wait for a bed though). There are sometimes psychiatric wards inside of a general private hospital too (you'd have to check with the hospital). Public psychiatric in-patient units tend to be on a ward inside of a general public hospital, rather than a separate hospital. In the public system, you'd just be sent to the nearest public hospital that has a psychiatric ward and a free bed (or sent home if there are no local free beds).

Re: Sunday Coffee and Chat -- 25th January 2026

@Ruby26 don’t worry I’m all good, and I think/know I’m fine without having to go or get admitted to one 🙂 I live alone now so it’s not an issue and it’s good that I have more privacy and alone time to myself. When I lived with my parents at the time, it was really rough everyday living in the same environment with them + my sister. I don’t know if you’ve ever lived in a private rental before but since I live in a student accommodation, I was thinking of moving to a private rental before my lease for here ends in June (unless if I choose to renew my lease). I’m on the waiting list for social/community housing but at the same time, I’m kinda worried about potentially living in a private rental and social/community housing. I feel like being in a student accomodation is more safe than those two, especially when living alone. Have you or do you currently live in a private rental or social/community housing alone? What are your experiences like so far?

Re: Sunday Coffee and Chat -- 25th January 2026

@Blackcloud I've never lived in a private rental or in social housing. I live in a garage with a private cash in hand arrangement to compensate the owners. From what I've heard from other people, private rental is much safer than social housing. I know someone who lived in social housing who said the conditions were very cramped and there was high illegal drug use in the communal areas. The main issue with private rental is the cost. Centrelink with provide you with rental assistance as an extra payment on top of the DSP, but it can still be hard to afford to rent a place to live on your own. Most people rent a room in a share house rather than a whole place to save money. But then a share house can be very socially overwhelming and has more risk of safety issues than living alone does.
