Morning everyone (that feels odd saying, given this is the 'night shift' thread) Just wanted to let you know there's a live discussion taking place here today from 10am (now) until 4pm AEDT.
It's called Career Chat, which we are now running every Friday, thanks to Ostara Australia. @Terry I saw you posted somewhere about jobs etc, so I thought I'd mention it.
You can find the discussion here

good morning @Mazarita, glad to hear you are feeling well and ready to face the day.
@Terry, just looked up Ron Mueck, very interesting Art, not my cup of tea, but it is very thought provoking. sounds like he is focusing on the deep emotional connection to ourselves. how we view ourselves and how we perceive others view us.
good luck today @Terry, sounds like you are going to have an awesome day 😄
@PeppiPatty, i am glad to hear Mr Arlo is all well and good, he sounds like a man after my own heart, i love pasta and olives too 😄

@Terry, I'm looking at one of the local community health organisations as somewhere I may be able to volunteer. I already know people there because I attend support group meetings. I can see how you may need to debrief on some situations with Lifeline, good strategy you have there. That is probably my only hesitation about volunteering in mental health: whether it would be too triggering of my own issues. But I'm becoming more aware of a range of different issues through my ongoing engagement with the forum and via the support group and have an interest in the area too, as well as long lived experience. So hopefully it will turn out well with this idea. Good luck with the Pulitzer!

Good article re Todd Rose. @Terry
I never took for granted adjustable anything as I am tall and when I was young they didnt even have many pantyhose the right size for me ... yet if I lived in another country i would have been among the shorter people.
A problem can develop if we get into too much of being more of an individual than necessary ... then it becomes individualism ... and too many weird haircuts tatts piercing and clothes .... oh oh showing my bias here ... sorry for lovers of body art ... I do appreciate good "work" ... but I am wary of isms ... there can be benefits to conformity too ...

@Appleblossom i got very bad-tempered after a point, because i couldn't conform - this is a very conformist and conservative society and i don't fit in at all, no matter how hard i try. the hardest kick in the gut was not even being accepted in the workforce despite being a very good worker. but no matter (actually i've taken lots of kicks apart from the afore-mentioned, but not today), (my mood plummeted after b'fast but i had a little lie down and some work has come in now). i have a roof over my head and enought to eat and you lovely people to talk to. so i am blessed 🙂
you're probably right about me being arrogant. i think i have to work on that pronto.

This is just a good morning to everyone. Along with any challenges we may face on this day, I hope there are moments of peace and gleamings of joy. Anyone with plans this weekend?

@Terry Not sure I actually think of you as arrogant ... you are too hilarious talking about your gigantic ego for me to think that. Thanks for the smiles when I read some of your quips.
Now I will quote Shirley
"Ego is not a dirty word" We ALL need sufficient ego to be able to function ... and you obviously have a lot of skills so a sense of dignity and confidence makes sense.
Hi @Mazarita
Today has been busy; still gotta garden and finish cleaning the oven. Son is coming home so need to shop and cook. Tomorrow we are both going to a book launch.
I think of you strolling that beach of yours ... cheers

Hi @Appleblossom, sounds like a good weekend of activities that are both useful and enjoyable for you and son. It's overcast and rainy here today so no beach walking today. But we did go out to a local shopping mall today (something I rarely do) and wandered around trying to find a gift for someone we know whose birthday is coming up. In the end we found nothing, got sick of being there and came home, picking up some yummy chicken and leek pies for lunch from the local shop. I ordered something from eBay for our friend, much better than anything we saw in the shops. Tonight we are having dinner with another friend, something we do a couple of times a week.
Hi @Terry, hope you are okay after the feedback you have been getting from other members in the 'Another Year...' thread, and hope it doesn't scare you away from engaging with us. I find the SANE forum valuable for the unusual honesty that people here display, the breadth of discussion that goes on and the range of different viewpoints found, including yours. Just to let you know too that, after you suggested yesterday I find some work to relieve my boredom, I went into one of the local op shops and offered myself for half a day a week. Might or might not come off but I thank you for motivating me, though I was at first resistant when you suggested it.
For anyone who is interested in the slow ongoing process of me trying to give up smoking, I have posted a message here and am looking for some feedback. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have. I've posted it in a separate thread so this one doesn't get too taken up with me talking about that one issue.
