I was naughty .. I slept in til 2 ... was up til all hours chatting to the ladies on our forum ... tut tut ...fancy that ...

I had a student from 4-5 and then went to choir

Re: 365 Project

wow, it must be so nice to have such a range of music, Germans really where the masters of classical music.

well not a lot @Appleblossom, clearing out the cupboards of old sheets, quilts, towels, etc.  getting the house back into something nice again.

Oh @Appleblossom you are allowed to sleep in, I slept till 2 as well, I can't stop sleeping all the time, it is so annoying.

I hope your son's trip is going well.

sorry @Appleblossom but I might call it a night, I hope you get an earlier night tonight!!!

Take care my friend.

Jacques

Re: 365 Project

@Appleblossom What range is your voice? I used to be mezzo soprano but am probably now alto with a small range. It's a long time since I was in a choir. Mostly it was when I was a child in the catholic church near our school. I have since lapsed from my religion but I remember fondly singing in churches. Beautiful acoustics and feeling with a group of voices ringing out together.

Re: 365 Project

Omg @Appleblossom doing my Uni degree constantly playing Shubert Leider sung by Jesse Norman.... The ErlKing. Memories. Then advance to Glen Gould Narrative CDs

Re: 365 Project

Its funny you say that about singing in churches @Mazarita

My son's girl comes from a totally atheist and philosphy family who always go to churches for concerts ... never for the services.

I am a mezzo. When worked in community choirs I sang in most voice parts to lead tenor to soprano... but when I went back to chorister role started 2nd alto .. now mostly 1st alto but singing 2nd soprano in the Opera in the Alps ... I am not much of a soloist though.

it is interesting how the voice changes ... I know a lady who had a lot of chemo and has a great tenor voice.

Re: 365 Project

I studied music theory in high school including a state exam, played a tiny bit of violin, self-taught a bit of piano (chords-based from pop sheet music in my teens). Do you remember Allans music store in Melbourne city? That's where I used to go to get the sheet music. Did singing lessons in my early adulthood with an opera lover who also taught light opera and musicals. Loved musicals on TV from childhood. Later was in some amateur theatre including musicals, one semi-professional at the Comedy Theatre (chorus). I got crohns disease too badly to really go on as a performer. Fond memories though. I loved theatre. I kept singing on and off over the years though, in different ways. Not doing much now except silly songs around the flat, but may get back into it again in future.

Re: 365 Project

Oh Allans was such a Melbourne icon ... memories ...

now its taken over by Billy Hyde and I have found a teaching specialist music seller that I use.

Wow the comedy theatre ... thats fantastic @Mazarita it takes a lot of energy to be a singer and perform which is why I like the chorister role ... I can still manage it regardless of which curved balls have been thrown at me through the week.

Also Community Music Vic ... push choirs for .... community and health benefits ... many sick and aged people can still join in and be part of a creative endeavour ...

Re: 365 Project

I've been looking out for community choirs, that could be great to join in on. But I've so far not found one locally that is still going or not full. Since I don't drive I keep things pretty close to home. Still early days in my recovery from extreme withdrawal really but I'm grateful for the changes and feelings of greater wellbeing so far.

Re: 365 Project

I am glad you are feeling better @Mazarita.  Maybe in time you will find the right choir in the right place ... Choirs are huge in Melbourne .... all sorts .... maybe your local community centres might respond if they thought there was a demand for it in your area.

Dear @PeppiPatty I would have loved to be able to listen to music ... I had a good sound system before I married but somehow I relinquished my rights to "the airwaves" early on in the marriage ...

Now I keep music a live active participatory thing not a CD or digital thing ... I have an acoustic door bell .... it took a long time before I actually could bring myself to buy a digital keyboard (tho I'd had a synth before marriage) ... part of my allergy to computers ... but I am getting there ... now son uses it to busk ...

The first pianist my son "fell" for was Gould ... I had forgotten all about him but son's enthusiasm brought me back memories of my grandparents copy of Gould's black and white LP cover.  Its funny which things stick in the mind.

Re: 365 Project

@Appleblossom I like the idea of your acoustic bell. Have either you or @PeppiPatty seen the Canadian film called '32 Short Films About Glenn Gould'? It was a favorite in my film buff days. It gives 32 'impressions' of Glenn Gould. Here it is on Wikipedia.
